I wrote a letter one summer night,
Like a lonely song that gushed from my heart,
I'd like to send it through an eagle in its flight,
But I won't, for tears from my eyes might start.
I saw him coming but he didn't see
The one who is waiting real faithfully,
A feeling of sadness came o'er me,
Felt like I drowned myself in a vast sea.
The letter, I kept inside my pocket,
Forgot about it through long days of labor,
If I send it, he'll ignore it, I bet,
Guess this would be endless toil and endeavor.
I pray the night shall be filled with music,
And this feeling, that infest my day
Shall fold its tent, for it is weak,
And as slowly fade away...
a silent, senseless woe
