Early this morning, I together with two other volunteers head on to EDSA-Guadalupe footbridge, stood up there and unfurled hand-held banner with a message that challenges presidential candidates to take up environmental concerns in their platforms. What puzzles me is that people just passes us by after looking at the banner which perhaps on my judgment gave them an idea of what we're trying to communicate to them. They didn't even try to ask us what it's all about and some of the leaflets we handed to them were thrown away (of course we picked them all up). I am not quite sure about how and what they think about what we're standing there for but the actions they have shown just made me think that most people now are too busy with their own usual businesses and that they are more likely to shrug off a relevant information that's freely been given to them. It is just frustrating to realize that information has always been available and yet people would choose to care less. It is time for us to really become aware of what is going on and let no apathy make us choose to be ignorant because at the end of the day, it is us who are going to enjoy or suffer the results of our actions. *sigh*
people will never care until they feel the wrath of mother nature again. Some people may find my post "rude", pardon me, but I am not wishing for another disaster here, I am just clearly making a point that people will never care, and yes, it's infuriating that they'd rather laugh at you and your advocacy than throw their empty candy wrapper in the waste bin. I wonder why too, what are the things that need to happen again before we act?
ReplyDeletei couldn't agree more. sometimes the most obvious things still need to be pointed out because people have a tendency to become wrapped up in their own myopic lives and don't see the big picture.
